A Business Plan For Your Home Working Business

So many people who are new to the internet marketing business don’t follow simple ideas and suggestions and want to get it done straight away. They think that within 3 months they will be able to retire. Chances are you won’t - you never know, you might, but I have never met someone who has.

One of the big things that they forget to do is to take time and plan the business, creating goals, ambitions and progress plans. Just like my previous jobs, I always had appraisals and meetings with management where we committed aims for the coming months, so the new internet marketeer should also consider doing.

By doing this, you set personal targets, you get an idea of what you can achieve and you have a sense of direction. It is also important to factor in money - how much in, how much out. Don’t think for one minute that it will always be money in. Internet businesses often require gradual investment and if you are willing to do this you should see the rewards.

So what should you include with a plan of your business?

1. Research and development. It is important that you know your market and how to target them.
2. Accept mistakes and know what they are so you can learn from them.
3. Set priorities and goals daily, monthly and annually.
4. Write down and cut out pictures of your dreams and ambitions. What you want to buy with your hard earned money.
5. Organise your time at your PC and concentrate on the matter in hand.
6. Decide a pattern of working hours - I spend more at the weekend than during the week.
7. Determine what is important and what requires more time to work on.
8. Never give up.

Make sure that the ideas and plans can be modified to help with situations. For example, you might give yourself a total number of hours per week rather than daily. Often, to allow a business to grow and develop, a good business plan will be modified time and time again.

Finally, put your plan and all the comments in front of you, make copies of them and put them inside your diary and things that you will be looking at all the time. Almost put it to memory. As long as it is achievable and makes sense, the chances are your business will grow over time.

Let’s face it, these are tough economic times. Wall Street is hemorrhaging money, banks are not lending, and the government has just spent over $700 billion dollars of your money to help bail out some of the largest companies in the world. Putting aside gas prices for a minute, the price of pretty much everything has gone up in the last few months making it more difficult for families that were already struggling to make ends meet.

So what can we do? Aside from getting another job, or winning the lottery, there aren’t many conventional alternatives (not that winning the lottery is conventional) to generate more income. Sure there are hundreds if not thousands of different money making “opportunities” on the internet, and I’m sure you know at least one person who has tried network marketing (more commonly known as multi-level marketing) and offered to show you how to “secure your financial future”. The question is, do any of these programs really work? To be honest, yes… and no.

So let’s talk about the internet. How does one go about achieving the success we see advertised almost everywhere? Simple, you don’t. Most of these opportunities are just variations on a theme: build a website and sell advertising on it. Well that’s great in theory, but lets face facts, there are millions upon millions of websites out there and more being created everyday. The odds are you aren’t going to be able to create the next MySpace or Yahoo. So where does that leave the rest of us?

Now don’t get me wrong, it’s a lot easier to create a website now than it was even just a few years ago. When I first got started in Internet Marketing having your own website was a huge deal, now with the advent of free site builders (most of which are free) anyone can have a presence on the web in just a few minutes. However the key thing that most of these opportunities leave out, is that it’s not creating a website that makes money, its generating traffic to that site that creates income. You can have the greatest website ever created, without traffic it may as well not even exist.
